Justice Revius O. Ortique (4297 hits)


The first African American to serve on the Louisiana State Supreme Court; a member of the Dillard University Board of Trustees and a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

Revius Ortique was born, raised and practiced law in New Orleans, Louisiana. While serving in the Army during the Second World War, he had the opportunity to defend and prosecute court-martial cases and determined to attend law school after the war. Earning his law degree from Southern University in 1956, Ortique established one of the largest estate practices in Louisiana. His career in the organized bar included memberships in the National Bar Association [president, 1965-67], the Southwest Bar Association [president, 1959-61], the American Bar Association and the National Legal Aid and Defender Association.
