The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and for Ta’Quan Ford, that step led to the University of the District of Columbia (UDC).
As a proud student of this historic HBCU, Ford has embraced every opportunity to lead, inspire, and contribute to the legacy of historically Black colleges and universities. From his multiple crowns as an HBCU king to his roles as a mentor and ambassador, Ford’s journey exemplifies the transformative power of HBCU life.

The Crowns He Wore
Ford’s leadership journey began in his freshman year when he was crowned Mister Freshman, a title that symbolized his commitment to representing his peers and serving as a role model. In his sophomore year, he continued this tradition by earning the title of Mister Sophomore, further solidifying his place as a leader on campus. By the time Ford was crowned Mister Junior, he had grown into a well-respected figure who embodied the values of excellence and service that HBCUs represent.

Mentorship and Leadership
Beyond his crowns, Ford has taken on roles that allow him to give back to his community. As an ARC Mentor, he has guided incoming students, helping them navigate the challenges of college life and find their footing at UDC. In his role as an Orientation Leader, Ford has welcomed new students with open arms, fostering a sense of belonging from their very first day on campus.

Ford’s work as an Ambassador for HBCU Mister and Miss has been particularly impactful. This position has allowed him to represent UDC on larger platforms, advocate for voter participation, and celebrate the rich culture and traditions of HBCUs. Ford sees this role as a chance to inspire others while honoring the legacy of these institutions.

Ford is also focused on his career in digital media and community leadership, areas where he feels he can make the greatest impact. His experiences at UDC have prepared him to take on new challenges and contribute meaningfully to the world beyond the campus gates.

The Essence of HBCU Life
For Ford, attending an HBCU is about more than academics—it’s about being part of a vibrant culture that celebrates history, resilience, and community. Whether it’s the heartbeat of the drumline at homecoming, the professors who push students to achieve their best, or the late-night study sessions that turn classmates into lifelong friends, HBCU life is an experience like no other.

Ford believes that HBCUs are incubators for leaders, innovators, and change-makers. He takes pride in being a part of this tradition and contributing to its legacy. As he reflects on his journey, Ford is confident that the foundation he has built at UDC will carry him forward into a future filled with purpose and possibility.

Closing Thoughts
Ta’Quan Ford’s time at UDC as a three-time HBCU king, mentor, and ambassador has been nothing short of transformative. His journey is a testament to the opportunities and experiences that HBCUs provide. As he prepares to graduate, Ford carries with him the spirit of UDC and the collective strength of the HBCU community. His story is a powerful reminder of the impact of HBCU life and the limitless potential it unlocks.
