On Thursday, April 11th, 2024, a successful virtual hiring event was held through the collaboration of HBCU CONNECT and GE APPLIANCES. The event aimed to discover fresh talent and inspire them to utilize their potential to tackle the challenges presented in the current job market. GE APPLIANCES provided an excellent platform for aspiring professionals to explore various career options and apply for new opportunities to advance their personal and professional growth.
Initially, the goal was to have 50 guests at the event. However, to their pleasant surprise, 584 candidates expressed their interest in attending. Out of these, 443 confirmed their attendance, and 160 people were present. This set a precedent for the strength represented by the union of the companies in the search for diverse talents for the future of engineering.
The chat rooms and working groups were very interested and actively participated, with many questions that enriched the event. Daryl Williams gave the opening speech, providing valuable information about building opportunities for the growth of new job applicants. The panel, consisting of Tamara, Michele, Jaekeia, Maria, Austin, and Madison, emphasized the importance of teamwork in these vital spaces for forming new work teams.
