Hanson to Tour Campus, Meet Students During Visit (367 hits)

Alabama A&M University will host a visit by the Honorable Christopher T. Hanson, Chair of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, on Thursday, November 9 to meet with administrators, faculty, and students. Chair Hanson will also meet with campus White House HBCU Scholars and bring remarks at the AAMU Veterans Day Program.

The visit is part of AAMU’s Federal Employee Preparation Week presented by the Office of Career Development Services.

Hanson was designated Chair of the NRC by President Joe Biden in 2021. He has more than two decades of government and private-sector experience in the fields of nuclear energy. Prior to joining the NRC, he served as a staff member on the Senate Appropriations Committee, where he oversaw civilian and national security nuclear programs.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission ensures the safe use of radioactive materials for beneficial civilian purposes while protecting people and the environment. The NRC regulates commercial nuclear power plants and other uses of nuclear materials, such as in nuclear medicine, through licensing, inspection and enforcement of its requirements.

This visit marks a unique opportunity for AAMU to host the Commissioner while highlighting the research and discovery happening On the Hill.
