Happy bEarthday to my brother who went home at the young age of 20 years old, H.J. Black, Jr.
Sept 5, 1956 - Jan. 22, 1977
Today would have been my only brother's 67th bEarthday.
As a child he played Little League Baseball under Coach Carlton when we lived on Illinois Street. He attended Garden Oaks on Pulgas Avenue where our Mother's house still sits til this day!
He went to Ravenswood High School in East Palo Alto, CA and wrote for their Habari Gani school paper. Later he joined the Navy, and would write to me from Japan, which was the first time I sensed his dismay about certain things in this world concerning race relations.
I was 17 years old when he passed. I felt like I had been hallowed out from the inside. I went through life enduring my own trials, but found my way back.
41 years after his death I started my activism on the subject by hosting our first radio show and launching a page/platform and added the topic to my catalog of books, as a publisher. I didn't know so many would be able to relate. If you would like to help be a voice too, here are a few ways we can continue to build together because Suicide Is Not The Answer.
