Check out this video from American Baptist College in Nashville, Tennessee! American Baptists College would like to thank the Tau Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. for providing this interview.
During Bernard Lafayette's visit to American Baptist College (November 18, 2022), he talked about how he and the late U.S. Rep. John Lewis came to room together — “I had a large second-floor room for two; John was a year ahead of me and he had taken the same classes I was going to have;” how many times he was arrested during the 1960s civil rights movement (30) and how his nonviolence training may have helped him thwart a 1963 assassination attempt in Selma, Alabama.
“No matter who you are, don’t give in,” Lafayette said before leaving American Baptist. “Change is possible if you have a goal: Find a role, find a purpose.”
