Tim Reid to Deliver Keynote Address on Future of Media 10 am ET During Nov 21, 2022, Mental Health Gala & Workshop USA-Angola Exchange
TAMPA, FL. – TV actor and producer, Tim Reid, will deliver the keynote address on “The Future of Media” at the One Heart for Mental Health Gala and Workshop taking place November 18-21, 2022.
One Heart is a mental health awareness campaign that will assemble government officials, celebrities, healthcare professionals and the biz and tech communities from two nations, Angola and the United States of America. It is hosted by Osãi, an Angolan non-profit organization, and supported by the Stroud Family of Colorado Springs’ Stroud Leadership Academy (SLA), underwritten by Analytics AIML, LLC. One Heart is inspired by the life of Sofiana Mbakassy (Osãi founder), who at the age of 12 was diagnosed with a depressive disorder that required medical treatment. Her advocacy for mental health resonates from Angola and across the globe.
Deaths of despair have increased for people of color in the US, and the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Psychiatry reported an upward trend in despair-related deaths across all races in the US. In his recent book, Let In But Left Out, Frank Shines (author and Stroud family descendant) noted that self-harm and attempted suicide among teenage girls had increased 50% nationwide. “As a father, I see the constant social media pressure and sports stress my 13-year-old daughter faces as a state and regional USA Gymnastics champion. No one is left untouched,” said Shines.
The two-time Emmy-award nominee, TV actor, writer and producer Tim Reid, will deliver the keynote address via Zoom Nov 21, 2022, at 10 am ET. His presentation will focus on the evolution of media and its power to make it safe to speak out on the topic of mental health. Mr. Reid recently launched a new streaming network called “LG|CY of a People.” Our mission is “to highlight and share the history, lifestyles and culture of the African diaspora as they continue to play an essential role in shaping the destiny of mankind.” said Reid. “Media can play a vital role in bringing visibility to mental health as well as help to remove the stigma associated with this ailment,” he concluded.
