Jazz's original character was a smooth and charismatic jive talker who was all about earth's positive urban culture.
jazz was also the first LT. of the Autobots a very high rank even over Prowl and Ironhide and he was by the far the heart and soul of the Autobots teams, especially in the IDW comicverse.
The fact that his character was black urban and he had such a huge fan following and love shows that the original creators definitely wanted his character to hope some serious high level on the series and to fans alike.
