Juneteenth memorializes the moment when the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas were officially informed of their freedom, on June 19, 1865.

To commemorate this day, associate professor of Africana studies, Dr. Samuel Livingston reflects on the significance of the holiday while recognizing the ongoing sacrifice and persistence of those involved to achieve equity and justice in this country.
