Miss Hampton University 2005-2006 (9170 hits)

Antoinette Knox, senior sociology major from Raleigh, N.C., was crowned Miss HU 2005 – 2006 at the annual Miss Hampton University pageant on Oct. 8. Her gracefulness and her beautiful voice moved the crowd when she sang, “Through the Rain,” by Mariah Carey for the talent portion of the evening. She chose that particular song because it is inspirational, encouraging and related to her platform.

Knox’s platform is Depression Education. She believes that depression is an important issue that is rarely discussed, especially in the African-American community. Knox plans on implementing her platform by educating her peers and community through brochures containing statistical information on depression. “I want to do something that educates the community both young and old on what depressions is,” said Knox.

In addition to her new role as Miss HU, Knox is also a student leader, a member of the North Carolina Pre Alumni association, Project Sunshine Mentoring Ministry, Golden Key International Honor Society and a singer in His Chosen Sounds Gospel Choir.

Knox is excited to be Miss HU and is proud to carry on the legacy. She plans on helping to make HU a better place for her fellow classmates and future students.
