Miss Virginia State University 2008-2009 (10189 hits)
To whom much is given, much is required." This statement certainly is not an exception as it relates to the collegiate record of Miss Constance C. Samuels, Miss Virginia State University 2008-2009. A devoted student academically, as well as a vivacious leader, she has made the most of her undergraduate career.
Constance C. Samuels is a graduating senior receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Hospitality Management in May 2009. Originally from Greeleyville, SC, she now resides in Woodbridge, VA with her family. She is the daughter of Brenda Hill and the late Todd Hill and the oldestand only girl of three children. Coined as one of the "Outstanding Hospitality Leaders" in her major department by her program's director, Constance demonstrates love and passion for her major. These qualities translate into her involvement and overall commitment to responsibility. She was awarded a ServSafe certification by the National Restaurant Association during her freshman year.
Miss Samuels served as Chapter President for the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality during her junior year. This past fall, she was an instrumental force in the successful coordination and completion ofher program's first student internship fair where students had the opportunity to share their work experiences with peers and industry personnel. Her thirst for knowledge and global interests motivated her to travel abroad to Italy, France and Spain during the summer of 2007. She, along with six other Virginia State students, accompanied another group of collegiate hospitality students onan intense two-week tour studying the culture, tourism, and industrial comparisons of the European hospitality business. With a devotion to scholarship and excellence, Miss Samuels is a member of Kappa Omicron Nu, Family and Consumer Science Honor Society and Eta Sigma Delta, International Hospitality Honor Society. She is the recipient of several scholarships, namely Sodexo Foundation Scholarship, Starwood/NSMH Star Student Scholarship, Marriott Scholarship, and CIAA General Fund Scholarship (VSU). Since her matriculation at VSU, she has been listed on the university's Honors List.
Constance is immensely involved in the university's Honors Program where she was inducted as a Provost Scholar during her freshman year. She served as the Program's Student Advisory Council President during her sophomore year. During her junior year, she coordinated the Honors Program's participation in Petersburg, VA's Walk Against Hunger. Currently, she is a Presidential Intern in the Honors Program where she works directly with the program's director in planning and implementing various activities. Her involvement is further exemplified through her participation in several collegiate leadership conferences from which she has met other student leaders and experienced the local color of cities around the country.
Constance is an active member of several organizations, including Alpha Eta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Agriculture Student Council, Hospitality Management Program Student Association, Thurgood Marshall Scholar/Thurgood Marshall College Fund, and the Institute for Leadership Development. She is a past Sodexo Campus Ambassador. Some of her annual volunteer service programs include Feeding the Homeless, Walk Against Hunger, and W.E.B. Du Bois Invitational Honors Conference (as a workshop presenter for middle school students).
Involved and successful as she is, Constance considers herself as an average 22 year old student in terms of her humbleness and light-hearted demeanor. She enjoys cooking, traveling, reading, listening to music, and spending time with love ones. She acknowledges her successes to her Lord and Savior, those that encourage her to do better than what she has done before, and her family for supporting her in all her endeavors. Her use of networking, marketability, and hard work has allowed her to seek opportunities in furthering her growth as a student and future leader. She is a hard worker and determined individual with great aspirations. Being a motivated and continuous learner, Miss Constance Samuels plans to continue her studies in hospitality and obtain a specialized master's degree with a concentration in event leadership and management.
Her goal as "Miss Virginia State University" was not only to serve an institution that has given her so many intangible gifts but to join the VSU community and encourage the growth of students in order to have a successful matriculation at the university.
